BHUTAN
Fall 2014 (Sep 29 – Oct 13)
Bhutan is a remote, mysterious, exhilarating place to visit.
Bhutan is the last of the small, hidden kingdoms in the Himalayas to unlock the doors to its
mysteries. The Land of the Thunder Dragon, as its original name implies, was never colonized and
has maintained its integrity and independence throughout the centuries, repelling invasions from
the strongholds of its fortified monasteries or "dzongs." Bhutan is entirely mountainous, with the land rising from 600 ft in the south to the over 21,000 ft snow peaks in the north. The higher regions
of these mountains remain almost entirely free of the footprint of humans, while the world of alpine
meadows below belongs to the yak herders who bring up their herds for grazing amidst the rich
grasslands and fields of wildflowers.
I am organizing an exciting 2 week trip to Bhutan for fall
2014 ( the best time to go to Bhutan). Last December I organized a wonderful 2
week trip to Patagonia, and now it is time to visit one of the most beautiful
and interesting regions in the world. This will be a nature, hiking and
culturally-oriented vacation - if you want an active trip with lots of
exercise, beauty, fresh air, cultural festivals -in a far-away place that
perhaps you always wanted to visit, then this trip is for you.
• Attend a fascinating traditional festival in Thimphu
• Choice of a 5 day trek or 5 days of hiking and touring the Pohjiba
Valley and the Punakha valley
• Visit the famous weekend market in Thimphu
• Hiking in Paro, Punakha and Thimphu regions
• Visit beautiful nunneries and monasteries
• The Himalayas, with its unique plants, flowers and animals
• A chance to travel in community, enjoy that arrangements have been
made, and be able to have time alone, with family, or with old or new friends
• You can add on time in the region - Thailand, Burma, Vietnam
The trip is designed for only 15 people.
I have organized the trip with a wonderful tour operator based in
Bhutan called Bridge to Bhutan; they have been great to work with, and
get excellent reviews. I have been able to keep the price to the standard for
all tours to Bhutan, with the added benefits of a unique itinerary, custom
designed for us, and the opportunity to choose a moderately strenuous 5 day
trek or a wonderful 5 day tour of other regions in Bhutan that the trekkers
will not get to visit (you can't do everything!)
